Mountain Activities
Walking
Skye is famous for it's heathery hills and wildly exposed mountain ridges and boasts some of the best hiking and scrambling in the UK. We also have a unique and varied geology and over 400 miles of coastline and wild moorland to explore. We can show you the hidden spots, haunting cleared villages, secret waterfalls and views of towering sea stacks shaped by North Atlantic swells. The Red Cuillin, The Trotternish Ridge, The Macleod's tables and the gigantic sea cliffs of Duirinish are just a few of the places we like to go walking.
Scrambling
“I have never seen a rock so adapted for clambering” Professor Forbes SMC Journal
We reckon Prof Forbes really knew what he was talking about! The scrambling in the Cuillin is the best in the UK, from classic routes to hidden gems, we have it all here.
Our Cuillin days out are flexible, we tailor routes to suit your fitness, objectives and of course the weather. If you're new to scrambling there are plenty of amazing introductory routes to tickle your fancy. If you're a more experienced mountaineer, we are delighted to guide you on some of the lesser known paths.
Rock Climbing
Skye has sea-cliff and mountain climbing in abundance, each part of the Island has rock with its own unique character. Flodigarry and Kilt rock in the North end are awesome places to go and tackle some incredible crack climbing. Neist Point in the North West has a huge variety of sea cliff climbing to for beginners as well as more challenging routes for experienced climbers. Looking out over the Minch to the Outer Hebrides while you eat your lunch is something to behold. If you want to do some multi- pitch rock climbing in the big hills we also offer adventure climbing days in the The Cuillin too, the walk in is longer but oh boy is it worth it!
Cuillin
“The Mountaineer who can spend his holiday climbing and musing among the corries and crags of the Cuillins is a mortal much to be envied” Sir Archibald Geikie SMC Journal Vol IV 1897
Cuillin Munros
“I regret to say that not one of us left the Cuchullins without irreparable damage to our knickerbockers” Ernest Maylard SMC Journal Vol II, 1893.
Here at Skye Adventure we offer professional guiding on Skye's 12 Munros. The best mountains in the UK as far as we're concerned, though like Ernest we can't guarantee your trousers will remain in one piece!
We have the knowledge, experience and qualifications to maximise your chances of success on your Munros. If you have a specific objective in mind such as climbing the Inaccessible Pinnacle or you want to collect all the Munros in one visit then get in touch for guiding and advice.
Ridge Traverse
“The summits are of bare and naked rock….tossed into a state of chaos which is quite inconceivable, and can only be adequately measured by its deadly effect on shoe leather” W Brown SMC Journal 1890's
The Cuillin ridge traverse is simply the best mountaineering route for shredding your footwear in the country! Its an amazing challenge for lovers of narrow ridges, massive exposure and exciting climbs.
You'll need a good combination of fitness and scrambling ability to complete two demanding days and an overnight bivouac on the ridge. We work with folk over a minimum of 3 days, but 4 days as outlined below is better. Ratio 1:1 or 1:2
Winter
The mountains and hills of Skye are possibly even more beautiful in winter. The Cuillin becomes a true Alpine environment. Look onto wild seas from snow covered ridges, learn new skills or get stuck into some outstanding winter climbing and mountaineering with Skye Adventure.
