The Cuillin ridge traverse is simply the best mountaineering route for shredding your footwear in the country! Its an amazing challenge for lovers of narrow ridges, massive exposure and exciting climbs.
You'll need a good combination of fitness and scrambling ability to complete two demanding days and an overnight bivouac on the ridge. We work with folk over a minimum of 3 days, but 4 days as outlined below is better. Ratio 1:1 or 1:2
What you need to know
- Ability: Excellent fitness, outdoor rock climbing experience and decent scrambling experience is a must. We prefer that you've spent some time in the Cuillin before.
- Kit: You will need the usual hill walking kit. We have boots, helmets, harnesses and bivi gear available to borrow.
- Location: The Cuillin ridge
- Price: £320 for one person per day add £30 for extra person. There is an extra £100 per person for the overnight bivvy, Minimum booking of 3 days for your 2 day traverse attempt.
CUILLIN TRAVERSE WEEK
The traverse of the Cuillin ridge is the most outstanding mountaineering route in the U.K. It’s an amazing challenge for lovers of exposed ridges, incredible scrambling and top class adventure rock climbing too. You'll need a good combination of fitness and scrambling ability to complete two demanding days and an overnight bivouac on the ridge. Course outline
Day 1- Ridge shake out, get onto the ridge for some scrambling, stash some water and treats.
Day 2- Climbing skills and kit prep day, abseiling and rock climbing at a local sea cliff followed by packing kit for your traverse attempt.
Day 3- Set off by boat from Elgol or walk in from Glenbrittle to start your traverse of the first part of the ridge, finish the day sitting high above the corries at our secluded bivvy spot where you'll aim to get some good food and rest.
Day 4 - Back up on to the ridge to tackle your second day and aim to finish on a triumphant note on the summit of Sgurr nan Gillean, make your way back down to Sligachan for a well earned drink of something cold!
